So today I went on a retreat to the President's quarters at a place called Robert's Port. It's about 2.5 hours outside of Monrovia. We rode in a big motorcade and was bustin' through all the traffic-it was kinda cool actually. The President was supposed to meet us there, but supposedly had some meeting to go to-I will probably meet her before I leave; they tell me that one of the volunteer doctors from here always has to accompany her when she travels.
The place was really nice though-it's on a beach and we took a boat ride around the area. It's so quiet and peaceful. A really remote place-I see why the President would pick this area to get away. We had to drive a portion of the way on this really dusty and bumpy dirt road-you should've seen that site! Imagine a whole motorcade swerving and trying to avoid potholes all over the place! It must've looked like a giant slinky from the air! Anyway, the food there was great-they really did it up, I guess they thought she'd be there-I did meet her sister and other extended family. It ended up being a social type thing.
I don't think I blogged about clinic yesterday. It was busy. People come from all over just to be seen by the Orthopaedist-even neighboring countries. And they bring real pathology too-I'm seeing some interesting stuff and will be booking a lot of surgeries. I don't want to bore you guys with all that stuff-just know that I'm trying to help a lot of people who need it.
I'm trying to keep up with my emails and blogs, but the internet connection gets real shady-the electricity here just cuts off out of nowhere, even in the OR....we manage though.
I'm getting along well and am learning my way around. I'm safe and so far not losing too much sleep. I hope all is well everyone. I'm praying for you guys-thanks for yours. Nite.
not sure you are getting messages from us back home...give us a sign...not clear you are reading ours but I am able to see your writings
